Discover Mauritius tea at Bois Chéri estate

On the high planes around Grand-Bassin, take the road to the Bois Chéri estate. There, you can appreciate the first tea plantation in Mauritius and will see the underside of this traditional beverage making process with its medicinal properties and relaxing moments. Read on to discover more...

The Tea Museum

The Tea Museum

This museum of the Bois Chéri estate allows you to learn more about the history of tea on the island and around the world, from ancient agricultural machinery to 19th-century tin cans and Chinese porcelain from 1645. You can also take a look at the pictures of the property when it was then recently built. The "must" is to taste the products of the estate while admiring the superb view of the tea fields and the south of the island. What would you like? Bergamot, coconut or exotic fruits? If you are a little hungry, enjoy the delicious Mauritian tea-based dishes: duck breast with honey sauce, octopus curry, vanilla chicken or squid flower with green tea.

The tea factory

The tea factory

Come early in the morning to see the harvesting work and the workers who are busy in the factory. The sounds of metal clattering and machines whistling have been heard since 1892. Cutting, wilting, fermentation, drying, sieving, packaging; the tea making process will no longer hold any secrets from you. Of course, the estate's shop will allow you to leave with charming little souvenirs with flavours of the island.

Chalet Le Bois Chéri

Chalet Le Bois Chéri

On a small hill overlooking the estate, enjoy the scenery and the pretty lake that is open to kayaking and fishing in an old crater. Choose the flavoured tea you are looking for from the Bois Chéri label products and taste the excellent Mauritian dishes on offer. Some specialities can only be found at Bois Chéri: exotic tea shrimp, tea chatini, papaya tea panna cotta and tea sorbet, etc. Once your tasting is over, why not go for a short hike in the area?
